    Michael D. Harris
    Chair of the Board
    Mr. Harris is a senior business advisor at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, a law firm, and was previously a senior business advisor at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP and prior to that at Goodmans LLP. Mr. Harris was the Premier of the Province of Ontario from 1995 to 2002. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Canaccord Genuity Group Inc., FirstService Corporation, Route 1 Inc. (Chair), Element Financial Corporation, and is a former Director and Chair of Magna International Inc. and a former Director of Augen Capital Corporation (former Chair) and EnGlobe Corporation (former Chair). He received his ICD.D designation in April 2005.
    Lise Bastarache
    Director
    Ms Bastarache is an economist and Corporate Director, and a former executive for RBC Financial Group. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Laurentian Bank of Canada (where she is a member of the Risk Management Committee) and The Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc. (where she is a member of the Audit Committee, Human Resources and Compensation Committee and the Governance and Nominating Committee) and is a former director of NB Power. She is also a former Member of the Board of Governors of Université de Moncton and Chair of its Finance Committee. Ms Bastarache holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Economics from l’Université du Québec à Montréal, and has pursued doctoral studies at McGill University, specializing in macroeconomics.
    W. Brent Binions
    President and Chief Executive Officer
    Mr. Binions has been the President of Chartwell since April 2008 and was appointed President and CEO on May 1st , 2009. Mr. Mr. Binions was Executive Vice President of Chartwell from November 2003 to April 2008, following the REIT’s Initial Public Offering (IPO). He has over 30 years of experience in the seniors housing sector. Prior to joining Chartwell, Mr. Binions was President and CEO of JBG Management Inc., a family business which owned and operated three long term care homes and two retirement homes in Ontario. The homes were sold to Chartwell as part of its IPO. Mr. Binions is a past President of the Ontario Long Term Care Association and a past Vice President of the Ontario Residential Care Association. He holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and practiced law early in his career.
    V. Ann Davis
    Director
    Ms. Davis is currently an active independent corporate director serving on the board of Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc. and also serves as a member of the Independent Review Committee of Questrade, Inc. related to their Exchange Traded Funds. Ms Davis serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Women’s College Hospital Foundation Board. Ms. Davis was a senior partner with KPMG, working on some of the firm’s largest and most complex audits during her 37 years in practice. She also served as the lead audit engagement partner for some of the firm's largest financial services clients. Ms. Davis became a Chartered Accountant in 1979 and was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accounts of Ontario in 1997. She graduated from Queen's University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree.
    Andre R. Kuzmicki
    Director
    Mr. Kuzmicki is Adjunct Professor and Executive Director of the Program in Real Estate and Infrastructure at the Schulich School of Business, York University and President of Excellent! Inc., a real estate consulting firm. He is also Adjunct Professor of Real Estate Development in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University. Prior to launching his teaching career in 1998, Mr. Kuzmicki managed the real estate investment portfolio for the Canadian arm of the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Mr. Kuzmicki currently serves on the board of DREAM Unlimited Corp, RealNet Canada Inc. and Dorsay Development Corporation. Previously he served on the boards of Artis REIT, Bentall Corporation and The Bentall Group. Mr. Kuzmicki is a past president of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties, Greater Toronto Chapter. He holds an MBA from McGill University.
    Sharon H. Sallows
    Director
    Ms Sallows is currently a member of the Board of Directors, Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the Investment Committee and Human Resources and Compensation Committee of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, and is a member of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Investment Committee and of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee and a member of the Audit Committee of RioCan REIT. Until 2009, Ms Sallows was a principal in Ryegate Capital Corporation, a company engaged in merchant banking as well as the provision of financial and strategic advisory services to institutional and corporate clients. Ms Sallows is a former Executive Vice-President of MICC Properties Inc. and previously held various positions at the Bank of Montreal, including Senior Vice-President, Real Estate, Corporate Banking. Ms Sallows received a B.A. from Carleton University in 1970, a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics in 1973, a Ph.D. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and also holds the ICD.D designation.
    James D. Scarlett
    Director
    James Scarlett was, until April 30, 2019, the Executive Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer at Hydro One Inc., an electricity transmission and distribution provider. Mr. Scarlett was a Senior Partner at Torys LLP, a law firm, having joined Torys in 2000 and holding a number of leadership roles at the firm, including head of Torys' Capital Markets Group, Mining Group and International Business Development strategy. Mr. Scarlett was also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee from 2009-2015. Prior to joining Torys, he was a partner at another major Canadian law firm. While at that firm Mr. Scarlett held leadership roles as head of its Corporate Group, Securities Group and as a member of its Board. He was also seconded to the Ontario Securities Commission in 1987 and was appointed as the first Director of Capital markets in 1988, a position he held until his return to private law practice in 1990. Mr. Scarlett earned his law degree (J.D.) from the University of Toronto and his Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McGill University. Mr. Scarlett holds the ICD.D designation.
    J. Huw Thomas
    Director
    Mr. Thomas is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Calloway REIT, and the former Executive Vice-President, Financial Strategy and Performance and, prior to that, the Chief Financial Officer, of Canadian Tire Corporation. He is a Director of Dollarama Inc., a Trustee and former Audit Committee Chair of Calloway REIT, a Director of KP Tissue Inc. and former Trustee of Connors Brothers. Mr. Thomas holds a B.SC., Economics from the University of London and is a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants.

    Vlad Volodarski
    Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer
    Appointed Chartwell’s Chief Financial Officer in 2005, Vlad is responsible for financial reporting, tax, treasury, investor relations and capital market activities. In 2011, Vlad also assumed oversight for Chartwell’s real estate portfolio including acquisitions, development and asset management. In this capacity, he and his team completed numerous acquisitions, developments, property repositioning projects and divestitures with the aggregate value of over $2 billion. Prior to joining Chartwell in 2003, Vlad was a Senior Manager with KPMG LLP serving clients in Real Estate, Construction and Seniors Housing industries. Originally trained as a mechanical engineer in the Ukraine, Vlad is a Certified Public Accountant (CA), holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. Vlad’s community involvement includes services on the Board of Directors of Wish of a Lifetime Canada, an organization whose mission is to foster respect and appreciation for seniors by granting life-enriching wishes.
    Karen Sullivan
    Chief Operating Officer
    With over 29 years of experience in seniors housing, Ms. Sullivan was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Chartwell on January 1st, 2012. Ms. Sullivan is responsible for operations and sales for all of Chartwell’s retirement and LTC homes across Canada. Ms. Sullivan originally joined Chartwell in 2008 as the Executive Vice President, People, with oversight for the human resources and labour relations teams. Prior to joining Chartwell, Ms. Sullivan held progressive positions over a 21 year career at the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) including six years as their Executive Director. Ms. Sullivan is also a former VP Government Relations on the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) Board of Directors and is a founding member of the Canadian Alliance for Long Term Care (CALTC). Ms. Sullivan has an Honours B.A. in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and a CAE designation from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
    Sheri L. Harris
    Chief Administrative Officer
    As Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Harris is responsible for Chartwell’s strategic planning and analysis cycle, the smooth operation of the management information systems, as well as oversight of the property finance team and business project management office. Ms. Harris joined Chartwell as the Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration in September 2007. Prior to joining Chartwell, Ms. Harris held progressive positions of responsibility with Retirement Residences Real Estate Investment Trust (“RRR”) including Senior Vice President, Finance, and Director of Corporate Accounting.
    Ms. Harris received her CA designation in 1996 while working for KPMG as a Senior Accountant and in 1997 she started her own consulting business providing corporate accounting and tax services in both Canada and the US. Ms. Harris volunteered for the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) from 2005 to 2013, sitting on the Board of Directors and chairing the Financial Liaison Committee from 2010 to 2013.
    Jonathan Boulakia
    Chief Legal Officer
    Mr. Boulakia joined Chartwell in January 2008. As Chief Legal Officer he is responsible for all legal and governance matters relating to Chartwell. Mr. Boulakia advises Chartwell on acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and corporate finance transactions, as well as on legal issues arising out of Chartwell’s operations. He is also Chartwell's Corporate Secretary and has oversight of Chartwell’s Privacy Office. Prior to joining Chartwell, Mr. Boulakia practiced corporate law at Torys LLP, focusing on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Boulakia attended McGill University for undergraduate studies in Science, has an LL.B from the University of Ottawa Common Law Program and has completed the Canadian Securities Course. Mr. Boulakia is on the board and the Governance and Nominating Committee of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. He is fluent in English and French.
